GBC exists to glorify God, in being disciples who make disciples of all people, through the transforming power of the gospel. Our desire is to raise up and send out missionaries across the globe who will participate in this disciple making mission.

Slovania: Mormance Family

Matt and Sharon first came to Central and Eastern Europe in the fall of 2006, when they spent two years in Lithuania pioneering a ministry to university students with CRU. Since mid 2010, they have lived in the capital city of Ljubljana, Slovenia along with their kids Eliana, Maia, and Alex. There, they worked primarily with university students and strive to see the Kingdom of God grow as students are introduced to Jesus and grow in their faith.

Currently, there is a massive need right now for personal spiritual care for Christian leaders. The amount of attrition in full time and part time ministry is staggering post covid. Sadly most missionaries last 2-4 years on the field before returning home beaten down and on the edge of burnout. Our primary role in Barnabas is to change these stats as we walk alongside and practically care for missionaries and church leaders in Slovenia, Europe, and globally. We want to use the tools and shepherding gifts we have to bless the Kingdom work around us. Our desire is to impact the DNA of global servants so that they truly know and experience the love of God personally which in turn flows out to all their relationships, their ministry, and their personal growth and longevity.  Practically we are mentoring, discipling, and caring for missionaries and church leaders with tools like coaching, pastoral counseling, spiritual direction, trauma story work, debriefing, resourcing, prayer, etc. Along with supporting the broader Kingdom work we continue to be on mission on our street, neighborhood, city, to see the church built in Slovenia.

Taiwan: Paivarinta Family

We have had a heart for serving the Lord in cross-cultural contexts since before we were married (29 years ago!), but God has patiently delayed. In the meantime, we have sought to serve faithfully at home in Portland. We were members of Hinson Baptist Church for over 20 years. In that time, Jon earned a Masters degree from Western Seminary, taught at North Portland Bible College, and served as an elder at Hinson, while working full-time at UPS. Elee pursued women’s and children’s Bible studies and ministries while homeschooling 4 children. During these years, we served as a foster family and adopted our two youngest. In 2020, we left Hinson to help plant a church in NE Portland - Redemption Church, where Jon currently serves as elder and teacher. After 4 years of service at Redemption, we are pursuing a new adventure. With the affirmation of Redemption as our sending church, Jon, Elee, Aubree, and Otis will move to Taiwan in 2025 with Reaching and Teaching International Ministries as the assisting agency.

Work in Taiwan: Language Acquisition and Relationship Building, Pastor a Church, Church Revitalization, Evangelism and Discipleship, and Pastor Networks
