Gresham Bible Church began with a small group of people who believed that God was bringing them together to further the mission of Jesus in East Multnomah County.

We were encouraged along the way by a wonderful partnership with an area church who provided wise oversight, prayer support, and a lump sum of money to help us get started. It was a perfect match; Cornerstone Church had a vision for planting churches and our lead elder, Vergil Brown, had a burning passion for church planting. After a few months of prayer and planning, we launched GBC on April 8, 2007.

Over the years GBC has grown, impacted many lives, helped plant other churches, and advance the gospel overseas. One of the greatest impacts GBC has had locally is through advocacy in adoption and active participation and support for foster families and children.

In May of 2019, we sent out our founding pastor, Vergil Brown, and his family to plant a new gospel-centered church in Northeast Portland, Redemption Church. In June of 2019, we called Josh Howeth as our new lead pastor. Josh and Elizabeth and their children moved from Corvallis, where they had planted a church named The Branch, and began pastoring October 1, 2020.
