Day Of Prayer & Fasting
September 16, 2020
All DayCategory: Church-Wide | Coordinator: Josh Howeth
We will be observing a day of prayer and fasting as a church on September 16th. We believe devoting ourselves to prayer and fasting should be a priority for us in this season. I think of the example in the Gospel Mark chapter 9 where a demon is not able to be cast out and the person delivered, and Jesus responds by saying, “this spirit can’t be driven out except through prayer and fasting.” True renewal comes through the merciful power of God and it is crucial that we seek His face and recognize our dependence on Him.
Furthermore, the expectation of Jesus is that His people would fast, which is why when he teaches us how to fast he says, “when you fast.” (Matthew 6). Fasting teaches us to yearn for God and the things of God, and it also expresses our complete dependence on Him. With so much turmoil in the world and in our own hearts, we want to call us to a day of prayer and fasting that our hearts may be tuned to God and His purposes in this world.
